Roger Bertschmann, M.Sc., P.Eng.

Roger is a serial entrepreneur with over 25 years of experience in wired and wireless communications and semiconductor design. In his previous position, he was Senior Director of Mixed Signal IP Development at PMC Sierra (Microsemi) where he led a team developing mixed-signal IP cores (Serdes, DDR, FEC) for PMC's Enterprise Storage and Communication business units. Previous to PMC he was a co-founder of Rad3 Communications, a communications IP provider which was acquired by PMC Sierra in 2011. In addition, he also founded SiWorks Inc., a leading wireless IP provider, acquired by Nextwave Wireless and Dynastream Inc (acquired by Garmin). Roger is also an advisor to iNovia Capital, an early-stage high-tech venture capital fund. Roger also worked at Novatel Wireless and the Telecommunications Design Center of Philips Semiconductor in Zurich, Switzerland where he was one of the principal engineers working on the design of highly integrated GSM and digital cordless baseband controllers. He holds a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Waterloo and a M.Sc. from the University of Calgary.

Stephen Bates, Ph.D., P.Eng.

Chief Technology Officer

Stephen is a world class expert in performance storage, non-volatile memory, computer networking, signal processing and error correction coding and has worked on some of the most complicated communication and storage solutions in the industry. In his previous position, he was Senior Technical Director at Microsemi (formerly PMC) where he worked with customers, partners, internal teams and executive to shape and execute on Microsemi’s roadmap for high-performance storage. Previous to Microsemi he was a cofounder and Chief Architect of Rad3 Communications, a communications IP provider which was acquired by PMC Sierra in 2011. In addition, he previously founded Raithlin Semiconductor in 2005 to deliver consulting, design services and IP solutions in the areas of Ethernet, mobile-TV, bioinformatics and home networking. Prior to Raithlin, Stephen was a professor at the University of Alberta’s department of Electrical and Computer Engineering where he was affiliated with the ICORE High Capacity Digital Communications Lab. His research focused on bridging the domain between algorithm development and silicon implementation. and he was awarded both an NSERC discovery grant and a SRC research grant. Stephen holds a 1st class BEng and PhD from the University of Edinburgh.

Sean Gibb, Ph.D., P.Eng.

Vice President, Software

Sean is a software professional with over 20 years of experience developing and leading complex software development projects. Prior to founding Eideticom, he was Lead Software Engineer at PMC Sierra (Microsemi) where he performed software system and algorithm development of LDPC FEC/ECC for Enterprise-Grade SSD Controllers. Previous to PMC he was a founder and Director of Software at Rad3 Communications. He was also a Senior Staff Engineer at Nextwave Wireless's Cygnus Communications subsidiary where he focused on the WiMax system design for Nextwave's CPE and Basestation products. At SiWorks he performed R&D for the development of various IP cores including a WiMax OFDM modem. He is an expert on algorithm acceleration, implementation of algorithms on multi-core processors and other programmable platforms and software defined radio. Sean is also a sessional instructor at the University of Calgary and has previously taught courses in software and digital system design. Sean is an author of several novel patents on FFT architectures and holds a Ph.D. from the University of Calgary where he specialized in the automatic generation of application specific processors.

Tim Lupick, MSc
